Make AI Ask the Right Questions First
Find what your request is missing, answer only the questions that matter and rewrite it with the context AI actually needs.
Step 01
Find the missing context
Find What My Prompt Is Missing
Identify the missing context that is likely to make an AI request vague, unreliable or generic before you spend time refining the wording.
Find the useful context this prompt is missing before I run it. My prompt: [PASTE PROMPT] My real goal, if I can describe it: [OPTIONAL] Do not rewrite the prompt yet. Review it for missing information that could materially change the answer, such as: - the actual outcome I want; - audience or user; - relevant background; - source material or evidence; - constraints; - examples; - required format; - what "good" looks like; - facts the AI should not guess. Create three groups: 1. Essential context — the answer could be meaningfully wrong or generic without it. 2. Helpful context — likely to improve the result but not always necessary. 3. Unnecessary detail — things I do not need to add just to make the prompt longer. Finish with the smallest set of questions I should answer before improving the prompt. Keep the advice specific to my task rather than giving a generic prompt-engineering checklist.
Step 02
Ask only the questions you need
Ask Me Only the Questions You Need Before Starting
Make AI ask only the clarifying questions that genuinely affect the result, one concise batch at a time, before it begins the task.
Before doing my task, ask me only the clarifying questions you genuinely need answered. Task: [PASTE MY REQUEST] Rules: - Do not start the task yet. - Ask questions only where the answer could materially change your output. - Do not ask me for information that is already in my request. - Prefer a short, prioritised set of questions over a long questionnaire. - If you can safely make a minor assumption, state the assumption instead of asking about every detail. - If source material is required, ask me to paste or attach it. - If the task is already clear enough, say "I have enough context to start" and briefly state the assumptions you will use. After I answer, summarise the context you will use before starting the task.
Step 03
Rewrite the prompt with my answers
Rewrite My Prompt Using My Answers
Turn your original request and clarification answers into a cleaner reusable prompt without padding it with unnecessary role-play or instructions.
Rewrite my prompt using the clarification answers I provide. Original prompt: [PASTE ORIGINAL PROMPT] My answers/context: [PASTE ANSWERS] Create a stronger version that includes only what materially helps the task: - clear outcome; - relevant context; - source material/input instructions; - important constraints; - output format where useful; - missing-information behaviour where reliability matters. Rules: - Preserve my actual intent. - Do not add fake expertise, "world-class" personas or motivational filler. - Do not make the prompt longer simply because more detail is possible. - Use placeholders only for details I will genuinely change when reusing it. - If one of my answers conflicts with the original request, flag it before rewriting. Output: 1. Revised prompt 2. What changed and why — no more than 5 bullets 3. Optional details I could add later, only if they would meaningfully improve the result
